Hoo-Haa about a New Year !?

A new year always comes with a bang! Suddenly you see million adverts about DJ nights with celebrity sightings, parties, fire-crackers and what not...I thought for a change I would participate in one such party...went through the advertisements and 'boy! they cost'. One says 3000/- for stags and 2500/- for a couple. Thats the price for having a binge for just one night....I wonder to myself how many things I can accomplish if I had access to such a fortune...For one, could have bought a dozen Wodehouse books :) :) Could have bought a good number of DVDs and sit back at home and watch em with a bottle of pepsi and chips by my side...(yaa...pepsi n not coke..)

Whats the point in a new year celebration anyway !!? Its just another day...All I can think of the ways in which it might affect my life is that 1. it reminds me I am getting older and older.. 2. I should keep in mind that hereafter I have to put '08' in the year column and not '07' anymore.

An argumentative reader might rise his pointed finger and say 'hey! a new year is about making new resolutions' ... its a day when you catch up with your old friends and greet them...(btw why does one call someone an 'old friend'?? isnt friendship to be measured with the degree of nearness as in good friend, best friend etc rather than with the length of time??) I donot have the statistic on the % of new year resolutions that effectively live out till the beginning of next year but I can take a fair guess that a great deal of them dont. A new year is no excuse to change your age-old habits. I mean how can anyone be a late riser till 2007 and become an early riser from the very next day?? If you like to sleep a lot.. I say sleep a lot !! If you love hogging...hog like there is no tomorrow...

Then someone in the crowd shouts...the resolutions must be 'realistic'...It only gives me a hearty laugh....A realistic resoultion is a mere euphemism for something you can acheive anyways be it a new year or not...a new year is no auspicious occasion !! Ah... that reminds me of one funny thing a friend of mine told me way back in time....he told me with a great deal of enthusiasm that February 1st, 2003 is a very auspicious date...that he is really motivated to acheive things from then on... ask a suprised 'why so'? He tells me that day reads 1-2-3 go !!!

Well...I made my resolve...I would sit back and turn on the television to catch up with some nice movie on HBO or Star Movies for tonight...gives me a nice feeling that I am richer by 3000 bucks thence...:D

PS: Happy New Year Anyways !
